North Sea countries face barriers to an orderly phase-out from the oil and gas industries, further exacerbated by Russia’s war in Ukraine. However, they remain best placed to be first movers to achieve an orderly and just transition as they have the necessary finances, economic diversity, technical knowledge and ample renewable energy potential to break their dependency.
